Forty-nine percent of recruiters plan on spending more on tech this year, with finance, IT, and marketing recruitment firms leading the way

Globally, around half of recruiters (49%) plan on continuing to increase their tech investment this year according to a survey of more than 4,000 recruitment professionals worldwide conducted by Bullhorn®, the cloud computing company that helps staffing and recruiting organisations transform their businesses.

The specialist firms most likely to increase their investment in technology this year are those focused on:

  • Finance and accounting (61%)
  • IT and other technical skills (55%)
  • Marketing and creative (55%)
  • Healthcare (53%)
  • Light industrial (52%)

It coincides that the recruitment firms most investing most in technology operate in sectors that are currently reporting major skills shortages.

The tech investment trends correspond to the rising commitment to digital transformation in the recruitment space. Today, the vast majority of firms (89%) have a digital transformation strategy in place, and 29% list digital transformation as their top single priority, placing it second only to candidate acquisition (36%).

One frequent driver of tech spending is the desire to increase the use of automation. Currently, three in ten recruitment firms (29%) list automating and optimising key processes through digital transformation as a top business priority in the year ahead.

Today, the most frequently automated recruitment tasks are:

  • Organising meetings or interviews and calendaring (56%)
  • Candidate screening (54%)
  • Candidate sourcing (52%)
  • Submitting candidate profiles to clients (44%)
