Global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has been recognised by global LGBT charity, Stonewall, as a ‘Top Global Employer 2020’. This global index showcases the best international employers for LGBT populations and features only 17 organisations worldwide this year.
Submissions were judged on the criteria of employee policy, training, staff engagement, leadership, monitoring, procurement, community engagement, understanding local context, global mobility and additional in-country activity with entrants being required to demonstrate their performance against a set of best-practice criteria reflecting that the organisation promotes inclusive values globally and is making true progress towards LGBT equality.
This accolade follows on from BCLP’s second place ranking in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2019, demonstrating the firm’s continued commitment to lead by example by tackling workplace inequalities faced by the LGBT community.
Daisy Reeves, Partner and Chair of BCLP’s Global LGBTQ* Group, commented:
“We are delighted that BCLP has been recognised as a Stonewall Top Global Employer. Being one of only a handful of organisations with such global recognition is a true honour. LGBT equality is now more important than ever. As our workplaces around the world have become virtual, it is easy for the cultures of belonging that organisations have sought hard to foster in the physical work environment to be diluted. Inclusion is part of the glue that continues to cement our populations. We must also remember that LGBT-friendly workplaces have provided a crucial safe space for LGBT employees who are unable to be ‘out’ at home. BCLP has always felt it crucial to support LGBT equality worldwide both internally and externally. Now, at a moment of crisis and a time when hostility towards the LGBT community has increased, providing a global framework to support LGBT colleagues has taken on a new level of importance.”
Nancy Kelley, Stonewall’s Chief Executive, said:
“BCLP has demonstrated a real commitment to ensuring that all its lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff and stakeholders feel included at work and we’re delighted to name it as one of our Top Global Employers for 2020. Our Top Global Employers are at forefront of driving global LGBT inclusion in the workplace and inspiring positive social change. Their leadership is particularly important now as we face unprecedented global challenges as well as attacks on LGBT rights and LGBT communities in many countries around the world.
There is so much left to do to ensure that lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees feel able to be themselves at work, no matter where they are. We’re proud to work with BCLP, who operate in some extremely complex environments, to create workplaces that are inclusive and supportive of LGBT people and equality.”
