The Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC), the UK’s leading licensor of ‘blanket’ public performance rights for TV shows and films, has recently uncovered that 98% of businesses stated that introducing TV and film greatly increases employee satisfaction. The research sheds light on the significant benefits businesses can achieve by incorporating TV and film into the workplace.
The research revealed that most businesses display TV and film to customers (70%), whilst only 55% display TV and film to staff. Furthermore, 44% of businesses said their motivation for showing TV and film content was to enhance customer experience. This coincides with the importance businesses place on their customers compared to staff with 62% of businesses stating their primary focus is providing excellent customer experience. This emphasis on customer experience is understandable, yet it should be noted that 70% of executives reported that improved employee experiences result in better customer experience. Using TV and film to improve employee experience can therefore often drive a better customer experience.
Despite not being a priority for many businesses, showing TV and film to staff provides great benefits to both employee and employer. The research highlighted three key areas which benefit from the use of TV and film, with 98% of respondents saying it greatly increases employee satisfaction. In addition, 89% claimed to see increases in staff wellbeing and 88% have seen increases in productivity.
The introduction of film and TV to staff areas as well as public areas evidently improves the employee experience, and consequently their productivity whilst highlighting how crucial it is for businesses to create an engaging work atmosphere leveraging quality entertainment. This research demonstrates how TV and film can achieve the adage: ‘a happy workforce is a productive workforce.’
