Leading CIC Sports For Champions, who have dedicated a decade to inspiring children around the country to lead healthy lifestyles whilst supporting unsponsored athletes, have launched a new corporate team building workshop programme.

Extending their reach from the classroom to the office, Sports For Champions are looking to help the hundreds of thousands of adults in the UK who struggle to find the time or motivation to take up regular exercise.

Last year, the World Health Organisation* reported that a third of UK adults aren’t getting enough exercise – a figure which has risen by 5% in the past 15 years.

With the technological revolution, an increasing number of workers spend their days sat at desks in front of computers following an inactive commute via car or public transport; the NHS states that studies have linked excessive sitting with obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as a decreased metabolism which affects the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat.

The new sports workshops will allow team and HR managers the opportunity to book a corporate event for their organisation which aims to make a real difference to employees’ lives.

Not only will employees mental and physical wellbeing increase, but performance in the workplace may also improve – research from the Health Enhancement Research Organisation shows that employees who exercise for at least 30 minutes for three days a week were 15% more likely to have a higher job performance, and that absenteeism was lower amongst healthier workers.**

Darren Emmanuel, Managing Director of Sports For Champions, comments:

“We’re thrilled to be launching our corporate sports workshops. After spending years working hand in hand with schools and professional athletes to battle the devastating results of childhood obesity, it was a logical extension. Longer commutes and working hours as well as increased reliance – both professionally and socially – on technology means that the country is on the brink of a crisis of inactivity. Our aim is to ensure Britain’s workers lead healthier and happier lives.”

The corporate workshops will involve a member of Sports For Champions’ professional athletes network visiting a workplace to deliver a motivational talk to businesses. All of the athletes are unsponsored, many having worked multiple jobs in alongside their training in order to fund their goals – giving them a unique perspective into the difficulties of finding time to fit extra activities in to a busy lifestyle.

The bespoke nature of the events allows businesses of any size to create a tailored package to suit the nature of their company. Companies can work with the dedicated team at Sports For Champions to arrange for athletes to take employees through simple exercises which can be undertaken in the workplace or the home to slowly increase activity levels.
